In a Nutshell

Very basically all you need to know.

If you just want to get on the road on a learner legal scooter or bike (up to 125) you need to do a CBT.
If you want to get a full motorcycle licence you need to do a CBT, a Theory and hazard perception test and take both parts of your practical riding tests. An off road manouvres exercise part 1 and an on road riding skills and roadcraft test part 2. Once you have that Licence why not try these guys.
For cheap bike insurance go to Express!

Decision made, It is going to be a 2 part test

Latest TEST changes by the government.

DSA So the DSA and Government have U turned and finally made a sensible decision regards the new test. TWICE! The New Test was going to be 30 March 2009, it will now be 27 April 2009. A decision was made in late February to make the new test 2 parts an off road element and an on road pursuit test similar to the current one.
Some good news is that the current test centres of Bradford and Leeds will remain open to conduct the on road element. Frequency and days of operation may change.

The off road exercise will be conducted at an MPTC or a temporary site. There are two temporary sites, Cleckheaton and Patrick Green, Lofthouse. These are the closest for this area.

However there is a catch the fees are going skyward again. They are keeping it at £80 for now, £10 off road, £70 on road. Next October it is going to rocket to £90.50 a 12% increase the theory has just gone up to £31 and part 1 will be £15.50 just as the country slips into zero or negative inflation! What perfect timimng the DSA has. If you click on the read more link it takes you to the DSA's web site where information on the format of the new test can be found.

The Government have ignored all the pleas of the biking industry and will allow European legislation to decide our driving test rules. The new bike test will come into effect in April 2009.

The test fee has risen 30% from £60 to £80. It is set to rise again to £90.50 plus the Theory test is also going UP UP UP!

For the future the government have also allowed the 3rd European directive to pass unchallenged into Uk law. This is likely to raise the DAS age to 24 or 26 years and there will be a number of restrictions imposed on the size and power of what you can ride. Plus younger learners will need to pass a series of tests to get a full license. So the message is GET THAT LICENCE NOW BEFORE ANYMORE DRACONIAN MEASURES ARE IMPOSED!

The new Motorcycle test, fundamently flawed?

"is it safe" not only a memorable line from the marathon man! well is it? and if so who checked it is?

I must admit to getting a bit under the collar about the new test but as it has a distinct possibility of dramatically affecting my business I feel I have every right to question everything about it. So if you are bored I have posted a series of articles I have written on the subject. Read on.
